The meteorite was named after the Russian village of Seymchan, where it fell in 1967. It was discovered in the dry bed of the Hekandue River in the Magadan District of Russia. Only 380kg of this meteorite has been found to date, and it is classified as a Pallasite. Seymchan is considered to be resistant to rust and stable.
